The muon lifetime experiment
PART V: Four different versions of the experiment

Several experiments were performed using the modified telescope. Versions of the experiment differ in the device used to record the time interval and in the way to obtain the START and STOP signals for it. The first three employ combinations of classical instrumentation. The last one is a low cost, microcontroller-based implementation developed in our lab.

See our muon facts page in order to understand what we are trying to measure. Separated pages are available with information about building the scintilator, mounting the detector, experimental layoput and configuration.

FIRST EXPERIMENT

Coincidence triggers scope that records period
τμ = 2.19 μs

SECOND EXPERIMENT

TAC output recorded with scope
τμ = 2.59 μs

THIRD EXPERIMENT

TAC to MCA (full NIM)
τμ = 2.06 μs

FOURTH EXPERIMENT

Microcontroller version
τμ = 2.06 μs

FIFTH EXPERIMENT

Digitizer version
τμ = ... μs
